The Grenadiers

“The Grenadiers,” fifty years after Manno Sanon, Nazaire, Vorbes, and the rest of that legendary squad set foot in Munich, a new generation is about to chase glory.

Tonight, Haiti’s national team—the Grenadiers—will take on Nicaragua at 8 o’clock. This isn’t just another match; tonight could shape the very future of our national eleven.

A lot is riding on this. Today is November 18, 2025—222 years since that iconic battle. How could we ever forget? On this date, more than two centuries ago, a regiment of 27,000 men led by General François Capois—known to history as “Capois La Mort”—shouted, “Grenadiers, à l’assaut! Whoever dies, their brothers will avenge them!” They were relentless, driven by a single goal: to turn the tide of history. Capois led the charge for what stands as humanity’s greatest victory. Around 250,000 slaves broke their chains thanks to that courage.

Tonight, history calls again. The Grenadiers—our national football team—will try to carve their own legend. You couldn’t have picked a better day to honor the spirit of the Battle of Vertières. Let’s go!

“Grenadiers, à l’assaut! Sa ki mouri zafe a yo”—the time is now!

We’d love to hear your thoughts and words of encouragement.
